Landless Thaba Nchu residents invade unoccupied land.

Residents of Thaba Nchu at zone5 extension have occupied land illegally

The community members of Thaba Nchu have started to illegally occupy land even after the efforts made by the municipality to remove them.

This was after they were given guidelines on the right procedures that need to be followed for land ownership but due to the municipal incompetence, it ensured that the guidelines were not seen through.

The residents did not see nothing wrong with claiming the unoccupied land because they say they have since followed the guidelines and right procedures from 2012 and they have not received and land to date. Community as well as political leaders are said to be too lazy to fight for the rights of community members, but the EFF has since stepped in to make sure more than 300 people get land from zone5 extension, their defence is the statement that was made by the Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) Julias Malema that "If you see empty land, occupy it".

The lack of communication and update from the municipality and local leaders have forced the community to take the law into their own hands in these desperate times of need for a place to call home." This is how majority of people who have land in Thaba Nchu got it, even zone 5 land was taken by force, this seems to be the only way to go about it since the only language our municipality understands is force" said Tembisa who was one of the first people to occupy land at zone5 extension.

So far, no one has been removed or any warnings issued in regard to the occupation of the zone5 land and it is alleged that the occupation of land will be made legal since it is election season, leaders will want to win votes by helping community member to get the land legally.
